Sports > Flawless Woods takes early lead at Deutsche Bank World number one Tiger Woods fired a
flawless six-under-par 65 to grab the lead midway through the
first round at the $5.5 million Deutsche Bank Championship in
Norton, Massachusetts on Friday. Woods, who has two wins, three seconds, a third and a
fourth from his last seven starts, is looking to claim his
sixth victory of the season at the Tournament Players Club of
Boston.
Playing the back nine first, the 29-year-old American made
a modest start with two birdies in the first 11 holes but then
surged to the top of the leaderboard with birdies on three,
four, six and seven.
Carlos Franco of Paraguay, who had eight birdies and three
bogeys, was on 66 alongside Briny Baird.
Mark Wilson, 211th on the money list, was also on
five-under with three holes to complete.
