Sports > Flawless Woods takes early lead at Deutsche Bank

World number one Tiger Woods fired a flawless six-under-par 65 to grab the lead midway through the first round at the $5.5 million Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Massachusetts on Friday.

Woods, who has two wins, three seconds, a third and a fourth from his last seven starts, is looking to claim his sixth victory of the season at the Tournament Players Club of Boston.

Playing the back nine first, the 29-year-old American made a modest start with two birdies in the first 11 holes but then surged to the top of the leaderboard with birdies on three, four, six and seven.

Carlos Franco of Paraguay, who had eight birdies and three bogeys, was on 66 alongside Briny Baird.

Mark Wilson, 211th on the money list, was also on five-under with three holes to complete.
